The innovation hub that brings together the financial sector regulators and innovators will start receiving applications on 7 November.
The 2nd edition of Portugal FinLab will be launched at the Web Summit next Thursday, 7 November at 13.00. This initiative will be presented in the StartUp Portugal exhibition stand at the tech event by the following representatives of the three financial sector regulators: João Gião, board member of Comissão do Mercado de Valores Mobiliários (CMVM); Hélder Rosalino, board member of Banco de Portugal (BdP); and Manuel Caldeira Cabral, board member of Autoridade de Supervisão de Seguros e Fundos de Pensões (ASF). The session is expected to last around 30 minutes, including Q&A.
Portugal FinLab is a communication channel between innovators in the financial sector in Portugal – start-ups or incumbents – and the sector’s regulatory authorities. This project is part of the three regulators’ efforts to increase transparency and address concerns over the Portuguese regulatory framework, and reflects their requirement to keep up with the sector and be aware of emerging needs driven by financial innovation.
This initiative was set through a partnership between ASF, Banco de Portugal and CMVM to create a more supportive environment for FinTech businesses and projects and to keep abreast of the industry’s global trend for growth. With Portugal FinLab, the participants chosen in the two pitches will be given an insight into the regulatory issues that their project could raise through continuous communication between all parties involved.
