The members of the Board of Directors of the Banco de Portugal are “entitled to the remuneration established annually by a Remuneration Committee comprising the Minister of Finance or a representative of the Minister of Finance, who shall chair the Committee, the Chairman of the Board of Auditors and a former governor appointed for that purpose by the Advisory Board; such remuneration shall not include any variable component”, in accordance with Article 40 of the Statute of Banco de Portugal.
On 31 July 2000, the Remuneration Committee decided, as a rule for the future, to establish the automatic alignment of the annual increases in the remuneration of the members of the Board of Directors of the Banco de Portugal to the percentage increases applied to public employees at the Central, Local and Regional Administration. On the one hand, developments in the Board of Directors' monthly remuneration from 2015 to today are the consequence of the entry into force of Law No 159-A/2015 of 30 December 2015, which laid down the progressive reversal of the temporary remuneration reductions implemented in Portugal under the Economic and Financial Assistance Programme through Law No 75/2014 of 12 September 2014. On the other, they reflect the salary update applied to remuneration in the general government sector, set out in Decree-Law No 10-B/2020 of 20 March 2020 and Decree-Law No 109-A/2021 of 7 December 2021.
The monthly remuneration allocated to the members of the Board of Directors of the Banco do Portugal is therefore:
