Today, Banco de Portugal publishes statistics, in Table A.25 of the Statistical Bulletin and in BPstat, on issues of debt securities and shares for March 2020.
In March 2020 net issues (gross issues minus redemptions) of securities by residents totalled about €1.8 billion. This figure results mainly from positive net issues of debt securities by financial and non-financial corporations. (Charts 1 and 2).
The outstanding amount of securities issued by residents totalled €447 billion, €10.9 billion less than in February (Chart 3). This decrease was chiefly due to the devaluation of listed shares issued by non-financial corporations and debt securities issued by general government (Chart 4). These devaluations should reflect the impact of COVID-19 outbreak on financial markets.
