Social responsibility

The Banco de Portugal works closely with the community through volunteering and social responsibility initiatives with the aim of contributing to a more inclusive and fair society.

The Bank’s social responsibility and volunteering policy covers three workstreams: (i) inclusion through education by putting the employees’ know-how and skills at the service of the school community; (ii) meeting the needs of communities closest to the Bank’s buildings, namely through actions to donate food and combat isolation; (iii) providing financial support to actions identified by the social sector partner entities of the Banco de Portugal.

Diversity and inclusion

Through its policies, the Banco de Portugal strives to ensure equality, diversity and inclusion. The Code of Conduct for the Employees of Banco de Portugal and the General Framework of Principles for Contractors of the Banco de Portugal are examples of these policies.

The Banco de Portugal is a founding member of the ESCB & SSM Diversity Network, a network operated by the European Central Bank and whose objectives are to enhance cooperation between the European System of Central Banks and the Single Supervisory Mechanism and to encourage the sharing of best practice in equality. It is also a Party of the Equality, diversity and inclusion Charter of the European System of Central Banks and the Single Supervisory Mechanism, published by the Central European Bank.

The Bank participates in the iGen – Business Forum for Equality, where it has undertaken to incorporate the principles of equality between women and men at work in its strategies and management models.
