The growth of exports of telecommunications, computer and information services has been associated to new exporting enterprises

Economics in a picture: The growth of exports of telecommunications, computer and information services has been associated to new exporting enterprises

Exports of telecommunications, computer and information services have shown great buoyancy in recent years. In the period 2020-22 the annual average growth was 21,1%, with a cumulative growth of 76,2% vis-à-vis 2019. The weight of these exports in total exports of services excluding tourism increased from 12,2% in 2019 to 16,2% in 2022.

These dynamics reflect the contribution from new firms entering the export market (extensive margin), in contrast to what happens in total exports excluding tourism. The firms that joined the market in the last three years accounted for 11,8% of the number of firms exporting these services in 2022, but for 15,1% of total exports.
