October 31: Financial Education in Support of Entrepreneurship

On October 31 the Portuguese Financial Education Day will be celebrated for the third consecutive year. In 2014, the Financial Education Day initiatives pay special attention to the importance of financial education to entrepreneurship and will take place in the city of Évora.

Financial Education Day is celebrated every year by the Portuguese Financial Supervisors – the Banco de Portugal, the Securities Market Commission (CMVM) and the Insurance and Pension Funds Supervisory Authority (ISP) – under the National Plan for Financial Education. It is aimed at raising awareness among the population of the importance of financial education. The event occurs on the World Savings Day.

The Financial Education Day 2014 will begin with a conference on the importance of financial competencies for entrepreneurs. It will include presentations by the Governor of Banco de Portugal, the Chairman of CMVM, the Chairman of the ISP, the Secretary of State of the Economy and the Secretary of State for Basic and Secondary Education.

Financial education and entrepreneurship projects will be presented and discussed during the conference. At the end, the winning schools of the 3rd edition of the Todos Contam competition will be announced. This competition awards, every year, the best financial education projects in a school context.

On the afternoon, there will be workshops on education for entrepreneurship and presentations by the winners of the Todos Contam competition.

Throughout the day, students of different ages will participate in several games, theatre plays and other entertainment activities, developed by the partners of the National Plan.

All over the country, the schools of the Todos Contam network and the partners of the National Plan will also commemorate this day, developing financial education activities, including conferences, debates and theatre plays.
