In May 2020 net issues (gross issues minus redemptions) of securities by residents totalled about €3.3 billion. This figure results mainly from positive net issues of securities, mostly debt securities, by general government (€2.4 billion) and non-financial corporations (€1.0 billion) (Charts 1 and 2).

The outstanding amount of securities issued by residents totalled €472.5 billion, €7.4 billion more than in April (Chart 3). This increase was chiefly due to the net issues of securities and increase on market value of general government debt securities (Chart 4).
