In August 2020 net issues (gross issues minus redemptions) of securities by residents totalled about €3.3 billion. This figure results mainly from positive net issues of general government debt securities, in €3.1 billion. The net issues of equity securities by non-financial corporations sector amounted to €1.1 billion, which were partially offset by negative net issues of debt securities of €0.8 billion (Charts 1 and 2).

The outstanding amount of securities issued by residents totalled €474.3 billion, €2.2 billion more than in July (Chart 3). This increase was chiefly due to the positive net issues of general government debt securities and non-financial corporations shares, which were partially compensated by a reduction in the market value of debt securities issued by general government (Chart 4).
