Statistical Press Release – Public debt – May 2020

Today, Banco de Portugal publishes statistics, in Table A.15 of the Statistical Bulletin and in BPstat, on public debt for May 2020.
In May 2020 public debt stood at €264.4 billion (Chart 1), a €2.3 billion increase from the end of April. This was mainly driven by an increase in debt securities (€2.3 billion), namely long term debt securities (Chart 2).
General government deposits increased by €0.1 billion, with public debt net of deposits increasing by €2.2 billion from the previous month, to a total of €239.2 billion.
