Statistical Press Release – Non-financial sector indebtedness - September 2018
Today, Banco de Portugal publishes statistics, in Table A.20 of the Statistical Bulletin and in BPstat, on non-financial sector indebtedness for September 2018.
In September 2018 non-financial sector indebtedness stood at €719.0 billion, of which €319.1 billion related to the public sector and €399.9 billion to the private sector.
Compared with August 2018, non-financial sector indebtedness declined by €0.2 billion, due to a €0.6 billion decrease in public sector indebtedness partly offset by a €0.4 billion rise in private sector indebtedness (Chart 1).
The decrease in public sector indebtedness was mostly reflected in a reduction in external financing and financing granted by the general government, partly offset by financing granted by the financial sector (Chart 2).
As regards private sector indebtedness, there was a €0.9 billion rise in external financing, partly offset by a reduction in the indebtedness of corporations and private individuals from the financial sector of €0.3 and €0.1 billion respectively.
