Statistical Press Release - Non-financial sector indebtedness - August 2018
Today, Banco de Portugal publishes statistics, in Table A.20 of the Statistical Bulletin and in BPstat, on non-financial sector indebtedness for August 2018.
In August 2018, non-financial sector indebtedness stood at €719.2 billion, of which €319.7 billion related to the public sector and €399.5 billion to the private sector.
Compared with July 2018, non-financial sector indebtedness increased by €1.6 billion, mostly due to a rise in public sector indebtedness (Chart 1).
The rise in public sector indebtedness was reflected in an increase in financing granted by the financial sector, the general government and external financing (Chart 2).
As regards private sector indebtedness, there was a €0.2 billion rise in financing granted by the financial sector to private individuals. At corporate level, the rise in external financing (€0.2 billion) was offset by lower indebtedness vis-à-vis the financial sector.
