Statistical Press Release – General government financing – September 2020

Today, Banco de Portugal publishes statistics in Table A.15 of the Statistical Bulletin and in BPstat, on general government financing for September 2020.
Between January and September 2020, general government financing stood at €7.0 billion, compared to €-1.3 billion million in the corresponding period in 2019 (Chart 1).
Since the beginning of the year, financing obtained by the general government from resident banks and from abroad amounted to €5.5 billion and €3.3 billion, respectively. Conversely, financing obtained by the general government from other residents stood at €-1.8 billion (Chart 2).
Financing through securities amounted to €18.6 billion, offset by the €-11.6 billion reduction in loans net of deposits.
