Statistical Press Release – General government financing - December 2018
Today, Banco de Portugal publishes statistics, in Table A.15 of the Statistical Bulletin and in BPstat, on general government financing for December 2018.
In 2018 general government financing stood at €3.3 billion, lower than the €4.9 billion in 2017 (Chart 1).
Financing obtained by the general government from banks and other residents stood at €6.9 billion and €1.2 billion respectively. Conversely, in 2018 financing obtained by the general government abroad amounted to €-4.8 billion, mainly reflecting the early repayment of loans granted by the International Monetary Fund to the amount of €5.5 billion (Chart 2).
Financing through securities amounted to €6.8 billion, which more than offset the €3.5 billion reduction in financing through loans net of deposits.
