Statistical Press Release – Banking loans and deposits – May 2020
In May 2020 loans granted by banks to non-financial corporations posted an annual rate of change (a.r.) of 4.6%, a 2.1 p.p. increase from April (Chart 1). The a.r. has reached the highest value since June 2009.
The a.r. on loans to households for house purchase stood at 1.6%, a 0.1 p.p. increase from the previous month (Chart 2). Loans to households for consumption posted an a.r. of 4.8 %, 0.5 p.p. less than in April (Chart 2).
Household deposits with resident banks totalled €155.2 billion at the end of May. The a.r. stood at 5.7%, a 0.3 p.p. decrease from April (Chart 3).
