Statistical Press Release – Banking loans and deposits – June 2020
In June 2020 loans granted by banks to non-financial corporations posted an annual rate of change (a.r.) of 5.6%, a 0.8 p.p. increase from the previous month (Chart 1). The a.r. has reached the highest value since May 2009. Behind this increase were loans to micro-enterprises and small enterprises, whose a.r. increased by 1.7 p.p. and 1.8 p.p. respectively, to 10.6% and 8.9%.
The a.r. on loans to households for house purchase stood at 1.5%, a 0.1 p.p. decrease from May (Chart 2). Loans to households for consumption posted an a.r. of 4.2 %, 0.6 p.p. less than in the previous month (Chart 2).
Household deposits with resident banks totalled €157.5 billion at the end of June. The a.r. stood at 6.2%, a 0.5 p.p. increase from May (Chart 3).
