Statistical Press Release – Banking loans and deposits – February 2021
In February 2021, loans granted by banks to non-financial corporations posted an annual rate of change (a.r.) of 11.2%, a 1.3 percentage points (p.p.) increase from the previous month. This evolution is mainly justified by medium and small enterprises, whose a.r. increased by 1.5 p.p. and 1.4 p.p., to stand at 7.2% and 15.0%, respectively (Chart 1).
The a.r. on loans to households for house purchase stood at 2.7%, a 0.2 p.p. increase from January. Loans to households for consumption posted an a.r. of - 1.7%, 1.2 p.p. less than in the previous month (Chart 2).
Deposits of households
Household deposits with resident banks reached the highest value to date, totalling €163.8 billion at the end of February. The a.r. stood at 8.9%, a 1.1 p.p. increase from January (Chart 3).
