Statistical Press Release – Banking loans and deposits – December 2020
In December 2020 loans granted by banks to non-financial corporations posted an annual rate of change (a.r.) of 9.6%, a 1.0 percentage points (p.p.) increase from the previous month (Chart 1). This evolution is mainly justified by large enterprises, whose a.r. increased by 4.3 p.p. to stand at 3.8%.
The a.r. on loans to households for house purchase stood at 2.3%, a 0.3 p.p. increase from November. Loans to households for consumption posted an a.r. of 0.5%, 1.2 p.p. less than in the previous month (Chart 2).
Household deposits with resident banks totalled €161.9 billion at the end of December. The a.r. stood at 8.1%, a 0.8 p.p. increase from November (Chart 3).
