Collector coin ‘35th Anniversary of the National Health Service’ and commemorative coin ‘The International Year of Family Farming’
Banco de Portugal will put a cupronickel-alloy collector coin into circulation from 31 October 2014, with face value of €2.50, entitled ‘35th Anniversary of the National Health Service’ and a commemorative coin, with face value of €2, entitled ‘The International Year of Family Farming’.
The coins will be distributed to the public through credit institutions and at Banco de Portugal's cash offices.
The ‘35th Anniversary of the National Health Service’ coin is only legal tender in Portugal and has the following features:
- On the obverse:
- The geometric pattern featured in the image of the 35th Anniversary of the National Health Service;
- At the top: the Portuguese coat of arms and the words ‘República Portuguesa’ (Portuguese Republic);
- At the bottom: the face value.
- On the reverse:
- The image of the 35th Anniversary of the National Health Service;
- In the outer ring: the words ‘A cuidar dos Portugueses’ (taking care of the Portuguese).

The characteristics of this coin were approved by Executive Order No 183/2014, published in the Official Gazette, Series I - No 177 of 15 September. The issue limit was set at 50,000 coins with normal finish.
The coin ‘The International Year of Family Farming’ has the following features:
- On the common side: the design used on euro coins in circulation.
- On the national side:
- At the centre: farming tools and products;
- On the left side: the words ‘AGRICULTURA FAMILIAR’ (family farming);
- On the right side: the words ‘Portugal 2014’;
- The 12 stars of the European Union.

The characteristics of this coin were approved by Executive Order No 2/2014, published in the Official Gazette, Series I - No 2 of 3 January. The issue limit was set at 500,000 coins with normal finish.
Note:
Banco de Portugal sells collector coins to the public exclusively through its cash offices (normal finish only).
Those interested in obtaining these coins should fill out the form provided giving the face value and number of collector coins desired.
Banco de Portugal does not reserve coins nor send them by post.
