Banco de Portugal publishes Responsible Investment Charter
The Banco de Portugal publishes its Responsible Investment Charter which sets out the general guidelines for the Bank to promote environmental, social and governance sustainability in the performance of its mission.
The Charter reinforces the Banco de Portugal's commitment to enhancing social responsibility and sustainability in terms of environmental, social and corporate governance sustainability (ESG), as set out in the Strategic Plan for 2021-25.
The guiding principles followed by the Banco de Portugal are: commitment to sustainability and promoting sustainable finance; adoption of responsible investment implementation strategies; environmental impact measurement and public disclosure; ongoing evolution.
The Banco de Portugal Responsible Investment Charter follows on from the document Acting for Sustainability, published in January 2022, which presents the Bank’s vision and priorities for the next four years in promoting environmental, social and governance sustainability. The Banco de Portugal had already committed to publishing principles guiding responsible investment in its Pledge on Climate Action, published in November 2021, on the occasion of the COP26. The Charter also follows the common stance defined by the Eurosystem in February 2021 on responsible investment principles and climate-related disclosures for managing assets in non-monetary policy portfolios.
