Improving financial information and literacy is of the essence to support the individual decision making process, depending on the resources available over time.

Bank customers with a higher level of financial literacy and capability contribute to a greater level of market efficiency adding to its required regulation. Therefore, financial literacy is increasingly important, as innovation and international economic integration widen the range and complexity of financial services.  

To this end, Banco de Portugal has launched the Bank Customer Website, where citizens may find useful information allowing them to make better informed decisions regarding the purchase of financial products and services. 

This Website presents a number of thematic fields with relevant information on the main banking products and means of payment, interest rates and services provided by Banco de Portugal (central credit register, list of risk cheque users and complaints).

Is also provides a summary of main legislation governing the provision of banking products and services, a glossary of financial terms and FAQs.

In addition, it provides financial operations simulators, as well as forms to be used to submit complaints and to obtain information on bank account balances and other financial investments in the name of deceased holders.
