Legislation and regulations

The Legal Framework of Credit Institutions and Financial Companies, approved by Decree-Law No 298/92 of 31 December, and amended subsequently, establishes the conditions for the taking up and pursuit of the business of credit institutions and financial companies (see also Legal Framework).

The legal framework of mutual agricultural credit and mutual agricultural credit banks was approved by Decree-Law No 24/91 of 11 January and subsequently amended, having been republished in the Annex to Decree-Law No 142/2009 of 16 June. This document is not available in English.

The remaining legal and regulatory acts governing both prudential and banking conduct supervision can be consulted in the respective subsections, including in the Bank Customer Website.
