European Commission

Banco de Portugal participates in a number of working groups and committees at European Comission level in order to prepare or implement legislative acts within its field of competence.

The European Banking Committee (EBC), composed of high-level representatives from the Member-States and chaired by a representative of the Commission, is highlighted from amongst these groups and committees. The European Central Bank and the European Banking Authority participate as observers.

The EBC advises the European Commission on the development of European banking legislation and policy issues relating to banking activities and has "comitology" functions, delivering opinions on implementation measures for EU Directives.
