Cash offices

Banco de Portugal is represented in the Mainland and in the Autonomous Regions of the Azores and Madeira by a network of cash offices.

In addition to providing assistance to the banking system, Banco de Portugal provides a range of services to the general public.

In the area of banknotes and coins, the cash offices in Lisbon, Oporto, in the Regional Delegations of the Azores and Madeira and in the Mainland agencies provide the following services to the public: 

• Exchange of escudo banknotes
• Exchange of banknotes of new Member States adhering to the euro
• Exchange of damaged or mutilated banknotes
• Exchange of ink-stained banknotes
• Euro banknote and coin exchange
• Sale of commemorative and collector coins
