Pre-monetary currency

The means of payment in circulation today are the result of a long process, inextricably connected to man’s own evolution within society.

Coins and banknotes were not used in early societies. There were periods in which certain objects acquired a reference value and were used as “money” in the different types of transactions.

This practice may still be found in certain places, albeit very rarely nowadays.
