Accounts of deceased holders 

Banco de Portugal disseminates requests for the localisation of financial assets in the case of death of the respective holders throughout the national banking system. Such service, provided by the Bank, sets out to facilitate the acquisition of information regarding the balance of bank accounts and other financial applications, a highly difficult task under the afore-mentioned circumstances.

Banco de Portugal considers the death of the holder of bank accounts and/or financial assets as the only feasible motive for divulging a localisation request, and such action is legally restricted to the head of household. 
 
This service may be requested as follows:

• By filling in and submitting an electronic form on the Bank Consumer Website.
• By printing the form, available on the same site, filling it in by hand and sending it to the following address:

Answers to requests (or requests for clarification or additional information) will be directly passed on to the applicants by the institutions authorised to receive deposits.
