Pedro Miguel de Seabra Duarte Neves

Vice-Governador Pedro Duarte NevesVice-Governor. Prof. Pedro Neves was born in 1961. He graduated in Economics from Universidade Católica Portuguesa in 1983, and completed his PhD in Economics at Université Catholique de Louvain in 1991. He developed his research activity in the following institutions: University College of London (UCL), The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS), and Center for Operations Research and Econometrics (CORE).

He is Visiting Professor in the Business School of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, where he has pursued his teaching activity – as assistant lecturer in 1983-1986 and as professor from 1991 to the present day – in a number of graduation courses in Economics and Business Management, MBAs and programmes for executives.

In the Economic Research Department of Banco de Portugal he was Head of the Public Finance Unit (1994-1995), Head of the Portuguese Economy Division (1995-1998) and Deputy Head of the Department (1999-2004).

He was appointed member of the Board of Directors of Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações - ICP-ANACOM (regulatory authority for the communications sector) in July 2004, and chaired that authority from September 2004 to June 2006.
He is a member of the Board of Supervisors of the European Banking Authority (EBA) and of the General Board of the European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB).
Articles by Prof. Pedro Neves have been published in scientific magazines such as The Journal of Econometrics, Economic Letters, Economic Modelling, Recherches Economiques de Louvain and Applied Economics Letters. He has also published a number of articles in the Economic Bulletin of Banco de Portugal, covering different issues within the Portuguese economy.

He was appointed Vice-Governor of Banco de Portugal in May 2006 and was reappointed for a further term in September 2011.
