João José Amaral Tomaz
Director. He was born in Caria (Castelo Branco district), in October 1949. He graduated in Finance from Instituto Superior de Economia de Lisboa (Faculty of Economics) (today Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão - ISEG).
He was Secretary of State for Tax Affairs (2005-2008) and Credit Mediator (2009-2011).
He was co-opted by Conselho de Prevenção da Corrupção (Council for the Prevention of Corruption).
He belonged to the expert panel of the Fiscal Affairs Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
He was Adviser in Agência Portuguesa para o Investimento (Portuguese Investment Agency) (2004), Counsellor of the Portuguese Embassy in London (2002-2003), member alternate of the Economic and Financial Committee (2000-2002), Coordinator of Economic and Financial Affairs in the Permanent Representation of Portugal to the European Union (1993-2001); member of the Economic Policy Committee of the European Union (1993-2001).
He coordinated a study on Tax Policy, Competitiveness, Efficiency and Justice of the Tax System (2009).
He has been Visiting Associate Professor at ISEG since 2008. He lectured at the National Institute for Public Administration (INA), at the Institute for Finance and Tax Studies (IESF), at the Faculty of Law of University of Porto and at the IMF Institute.
He is the author and co-author of numerous papers on tax and European Union issues and his articles have been published in professional journals and magazines.
He was appointed Member of the Board of Directors of Banco de Portugal on 14 September 2011.
