Production
Euro area countries maintain the rights to issue euro coins but it is up to the ECB to approve the volume of coin issuance.
The responsibility for the issuance of coins varies across countries: in Portugal, such responsibility lies with the State, through the Ministry of Finance (Directorate General for the Treasury and Finance), and Banco de Portugal puts them into circulation.
The production of coins in Portugal is incumbent on Imprensa Nacional - Casa da Moeda (the Portuguese Mint).
Coins are produced in Mints using specifically-designed machines. The high technological level and strict specifications ensures the continuous production of high-quality coins.
