Information materials

Banco de Portugal regularly offers the public a set of information materials on cash.

Banco de Portugal also distributes materials on cash produced by the European Central Bank, in Portuguese.

Materials are distributed directly by Banco de Portugal or to partner entities distributing informative material.

Leaflet on the security features of euro banknotes

The European Central Bank distributes a leaflet on the security features of euro banknotes, highlighting the security features of the banknotes with high and low denomination with illustrations of the 50 and 20 euro banknotes. Banco de Portugal distributes the leaflet in its courses and over the counter.

Lenticular card with euro banknote security features

The European Central Bank has produced a card (the size of a credit card) with images of the security features of banknotes with high and low denomination. The card enables rapid consultation of the main security features and is aimed at the general public, but can also be used by professionals.

Leaflet on euro coins

Banco de Portugal has produced a leaflet for professional cash handlers and for the general public.

The leaflet contains information on euro coins and the security characteristics which enable certification of their authenticity. The leaflet describes the edge of the euro coin, its embossment and how to check its magnetic properties.

These leaflets are distributed by Banco de Portugal and in courses or awareness-raising initiatives developed by trainers of the National Counterfeit Centre.

Poster on the new common face of the coins

Banco de Portugal has produced a poster to disseminate information on the changes to be introduced in the design of the common faces of the 10, 20 and 50 cent and 1 and 2 euro coins, as a result of the European Union enlargement in May 2004.

It is distributed in County Halls, Tax Offices and other public services to credit institutions and cash-in-transit companies. The poster may be requested by any institution wishing to disseminate it at its respective premises.

Bulletin on banknotes and coins

Banco de Portugal publishes "O Boletim Notas e Moedas" (the Banknotes and Coins Bulletin) every April and October on cash-related matters, and distributes it electronically, free of charge.

It comes in five parts (the Euro, Counterfeiting, Euro Banknotes and coins, Banknotes and coins of the world and Sundry information) and is aimed at professional cash handlers (banks and cash-in-transit companies) and other interested entities (retailers, police, collectors, etc.).
