Álvaro A. Novo joined Banco de Portugal in December, 2001. In the same year, he received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is currently an Economist in the Structural Studies Division. His research interests span topics such as unemployment insurance and reemployment outcomes (wages and tenure), active labor market policies effectiveness, job destruction and worker reallocation, and wage mobility.
