Statistical production by Banco de Portugal is governed by a number of national and Community regulations, in particular:

At national level, the Organic Law of Banco de Portugal (Law No 5/98 of 31 January)and the Law on the National Statistical System (Law No 22/2008 of 13 May).   

At Community level, the ESCB Statute (article 5) and Council Regulation (EC) No 2533/98 of 23 November 1998 concerning the collection of statistical information by the European Central Bank.
