Monetary and financial statistics

Monetary and financial statistics are compiled by Banco de Portugal and cover the following main segments:

• Balance-sheet statistics on the consolidated balance sheet of the monetary financial institutions sector, covering Banco de Portugal and Other Monetary Financial Institutions (OMFIs). In the Portuguese case, these include the following entities: banks, mutual agricultural credit banks, savings banks and money market funds;
• Interest rate statistics of MFIs, relating to loans and deposits denominated in euros to/from households and non-financial corporations that are resident in countries participating in the European Monetary Union. These statistics cover interest rates on new businesses and balances and the respective associated amounts;
• Statistics of non-Monetary Financial Institutions other than insurance corporations and pension funds, relating to the balance sheet and income and expenses by type of non-monetary financial institutions.

Statistical reporting to Banco de Portugal is regulated in the Bank’s Instructions – see Legislation and regulations and the Manual of Procedures to be complied with for reporting purposes.
